Executive Director

Cooper Halpern

Cooper Halpern is a current junior at The Bronx High School of Science. A born and raised New Yorker, Cooper prefers to spend his time surrounded with family and friends. In addition to his director responsibilities for Science for Bronx, Cooper is the president of FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America), the Youth Chair at the Seaver Autism Center at Mount Sinai, and a staff reporter for The Science Survey, Bronx Science’s paper with over 555,000 annual readers. Cooper is also an active member of the Bronx Science speech and debate team, which is ranked number one in the country. Outside of these extracurriculars, Cooper wishes to pursue a career in politics and business.

Directors

Leo Hadas

Leo Hadas is a senior at Bronx Science and a proud Astoria, Queens native. He began tutoring for Science for Bronx during his sophomore year and has remained dedicated to helping students grow academically. For the past three summers, Leo has worked as a lifeguard at Wolf Lake, NY, and was recently promoted to head lifeguard. Leo has been training and actively competing in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for 12 years. He is hoping to study applications of artificial intelligence in business and pursue a career in tech entrepreneurship.

Cody Mo

Cody Mo is a senior at The Bronx High School of Science. A proud Manhattanite, he enjoys exploring the concrete jungle through street photography, and staying active by swimming and playing volleyball. Beyond Science for Bronx, Cody serves as a coordinator for the Chinatown Literacy Project nonprofit organization, helping provide free English tutoring to the Chinatown community, and tutors SAT prep through Schoolhouse, a College Board–affiliate. He also spent a summer as a NYC Parks lifeguard—an experience he found enriching. In the future, Cody hopes to pursue a career in healthcare and become a physician someday—ideally one who still has time to go on walks.

Associate Directors

Emily Appelbaum

Abigail Jones

Emily Appelbaum is a current junior at Bronx Science. She enjoys spending time with her family and hanging out with friends. Emily is a novice director of Public Forum for the Bronx Science Speech and Debate team, where she competes on a varsity level. She is also the treasurer for Club Advocates for Disease Awareness (ADA) and a member of the school’s Journal of Biology.  Outside of school, Emily loves to babysit and volunteer with the toddler programs at her temple.

Abigail Jones is a current junior at The Bronx High School of Science. In addition to her responsibilities as an Associate Director for Science for Bronx, Abigail is a third-year member of the Bronx Science Speech and Debate Team, the Social Media Manager of Club ADA (Advocates for Disease Awareness), and a Staff Reporter for The Science Survey, Bronx Science’s newspaper with over 555,000 annual readers. Abigail is also enrolled in the Biology Research Program at Bronx Science and spends her summers interning at the Faith Lab at Mount Sinai, where she contributes to microbiological and immunological research. In her free time, Abigail enjoys spending quality time with family and friends.

Communications Director

Lucas Benjamin is a current senior at Bronx Science. In addition to Science for Bronx, Lucas runs InternSwipe, a mobile platform that helps students discover internships, which aims to address inequity in the internship process. He is also an editor and writer for The Science Survey, which reaches over 555,000 annual readers, and a member of the Bronx Science Model UN team. In his free time, he DJs events across New York City and watches sports, with American football being his favorite. After high school, Lucas hopes to pursue a career in business.
